Creature Mark

Collection of 12 minimalist black and white illustrations of various fish and aquatic creatures, each in a square frame.

Project Objective

Create a simplified creature mark based on a real animal by studying photographic references, developing sketch explorations, and refining the form into a clean vector illustration. The final mark needed to reduce the subject to its most essential shapes while retaining just enough detail for the animal to remain clearly recognizable.

For this project, I chose the Oceanic manta ray, drawn to its fluid movement and graceful presence in the water.

Ideation/Iteration

Ideation/Iteration

As a final step, the project incorporated a short phrase written by a partner to accompany the creature mark. The line paired with my design reads: “its wings like silk, it sweeps the blue. a dance of grace in waters true the manta ray in the deep blue.”
